Please find answers to some frequently asked questions below. If you have any further questions, or would like to discuss any special needs or requirements with our staff, please call 8339 3333 for a chat!

No - Woodhouse is open to EVERYONE! Proudly owned by Scouts SA, we often refer to Woodhouse as being ‘the cellar door for Scouting’. Each of our facilitated programs offer you a little taste of the types of activities you would enjoy at Scouts… essentially being screen-free, making awesome new friends, getting outdoors and being active!

We will be there every step of the way to help learn some cool new skills and you do not need to have any prior knowledge.

Just $78 per day (Scouts SA Members take 20% off!). This price covers:

  • Full facilitation (1:9 staff to child ratio) - drop off from 8:30am for 9am start, pick up at 5pm
  • Entry to the property and use of onsite activities and equipment
  • One very good night’s sleep from a very exhausted (and happy) child
  • A lifetime of memories, having made new friends and developed new skills

Our team have years of experience working with youth and are all armed with the following:

  • National Police Check
  • Working With Children Check - South Australian Department of Human Services (DHS)
  • Catholic Education Clearance
  • Senior First Aid
  • Child Safe Environment Training
  • Mandatory Notification Training

The UNPLUGGED program is designed for primary school kids, from Reception through to Year Six (generally 5-12 years old).

We ask that Receptions complete at least a term of school before heading to a Woodhouse day camp. They will be used to the school routine on which UNPLUGGED is based, meaning they will settle in better and get the most out of the program.

Children are generally split in age groups 5-7 and 8-12 to ensure the activities match abilities and everyone has a great time with an appropriate level of challenge. This can vary depending on the split of ages in the group.

All ages come together for lunch, morning/afternoon tea breaks and then tube slide at the end of the day.

We will keep the kids entertained rain, hail or shine! Every day is programmed with a wet weather contingency plan. We have several large indoor spaces at our disposal and will simply adapt the programs to stay indoors. Of course, a little water never hurt anyone so, where appropriate, we will continue outdoors as planned. If it is too wet, Challenge Hill/Tube Slide will not be included in the activities for the day.

Once your space has been reserved, the payment is non-refundable. However, you are welcome to transfer the booking to another child for the same day.

If (for some bizarre reason) minimum numbers are not met, the day camp may be cancelled with a minimum of 48 hours notice given. A full refund will be provided in this instance.

Please note:

  • Woodhouse Activity Centre is closed if there is a Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating.
  • The facilitated day camp may also be cancelled if the forecast temperature is above 35 degrees in Piccadilly, or if management declares the site/activities to be unsafe due to particular weather conditions.
  • We will notify you two days prior if cancellation is to occur and a full refund will be issued.

The UNPLUGGED program is designed as a ‘drop & go’ or ‘kids only’ experience, which helps to build independence, friendships and resilience. We are unable to have parents/caregivers stay for the program due to child protection protocols. In our experience children settle best after a quick exit by their parents/caregivers and are usually positively engaged in activities within minutes. Rest assured we are there to support kids who find new environments and people a little challenging. If that is the case, it is best noted during the booking process rather than in front of the child at drop-off. If your child has a support worker due to a disability or severe behavioural issue please discuss this with us via email or phone before booking as we may be able to accommodate this.

The best strategy for parents/caregivers is to leave the site however if you wish to stay nearby, why not use the opportunity to explore the Adelaide Hills? Nearby townships including Stirling (great cafes and also a fantastic library if you need to work), Aldgate, Bridgewater, Crafers and Uraidla all within a 10-minute drive. Check out more to do in the Adelaide Hills including Mount Lofty Botanic Garden (5-minute drive) or the artisan village of Hahndorf (15-minute drive). Also, if you would like to experience Woodhouse with your child, please consider coming back on a day or camping adventure.

NO SUNDAY BESTS!

The kids are going to be active and outdoors so please dress accordingly and with the weather forecast in mind.

On cool days, a warm hat, jumper and jacket are recommended... and possibly a raincoat (weather dependent).

Please remember a sun hat and some sunscreen (reapplied throughout the day).

CLOSED FOOTWEAR MUST BE WORN (no thongs/flip-flops, slides, crocs or sandals) and long pants are recommended. If you have booked a day with wheelies (mountain boards, mountain scooters, trikes, billy carts etc.) then wearing or bringing long pants and long sleeves is essential.

In very wet weather gumboots can be useful but these aren't safe for all sessions so another pair of closed shoes is essential.

IN A BACKPACK:

  • Packed lunch + morning and afternoon tea adhering to the same allergy policy as at school. We find kids burn a lot of energy at Woodhouse so it wouldn't hurt to pack a little extra. We have a strict no-nut policy to protect those with severe allergies. That means no peanuts or tree nuts in lunch boxes. Tree nuts include almonds, walnuts, pistachios, cashews, hazelnuts and Brazil nuts. Please send food packed separately for each child - due to food allergy protocols we are unable to allow food sharing. Fruit and snacks will be available for top ups!
  • Named water bottle
  • Brimmed sunhat
  • Full change of clothes including shoes and socks (mindful of water-based activities including optional creek obstacle course elements)
  • Any required medication or medical action plan - please ensure medication is in its packaging and is clearly named with written instructions (dosage, timing etc.). This must be handed directly by the parent/guardian to a Woodhouse staff member.

Make sure you join our mailing list to stay up to date with future programs – and add info@woodhouse.org.au to your safe-senders list. Click here to subscribe! You can also stay up-to-date by following us on Facebook or Instagram.

If you’re not looking for a ‘drop & go’ option and want to spend some real quality time with the family, there are heaps of things to do at Woodhouse over the school holidays. Click here to see some ideas!

If the promise of a full day of adventure, just 10 minutes up the freeway, isn't enough... we've put together another 10 compelling arguments as to why a Day Camp at Woodhouse is so beneficial to your child's development. Click here to check it out!

Parents/Carers are asked to arrive promptly at 5pm for collections. If a child has not been collected by 5:15pm, Woodhouse staff will call the parent/carer to establish the anticipated arrival time. Any collections from 5:20pm onwards should be made from Reception (downstairs first building on the right) rather than SEEONEE (the UNPLUGGED basecamp). Collections between 5:20pm and 5:30pm will incur a flat $15 surcharge, with an additional $1 per minute charged thereafter (fees per family/collection not each child). Late fee payable at time of collection.

Please keep your child(ren) at home if they are showing signs of illness, especially flu or cold symptoms including fever, coughing, sore throat or headaches. We will isolate a child who is presenting with symptoms and phone the parent/guardian for collection.

We take some photos each day but the priority is always the safety and enjoyment of the kids, along with respecting the privacy of those without photo consent (communicated by parents/carers at time of registration). The number of photos taken depends on the staff available to take them on the day, how many kids are able to be included and whether the individual kids with photo consent seem amenable to having their photo taken. We post a selection to our social media accounts (find us on Facebook and Instagram). The aim is to provide a snapshot of the day rather than a photo of every child.

What other parents are saying...

'Our kids love attending Woodhouse Activity Centre which is a great place for social and life skills as well as being physically active. With one on the Autism Spectrum, and dietary requirements for both, they've experienced inclusion and acceptance, and have built some great Woodhouse Friendships.'

'The kids loved it so much and made friends from other schools. They've asked me to book them in for another day next week. Thank you so much to everyone at Woodhouse.'

‘When I asked my 6 year old (whom I was concerned that the activity yesterday may not be her thing) how her day was, her simple response was "Epic" "I loved it, I had so much fun". So, well done to all involved, Woodhouse has been the highlight of the holidays for Lucy.

‘He was upset this morning going off to OSHC rather than up to Woodhouse. He has been telling all his friends about it and how it is "the best time ever"’

‘It was great to have something that was completely outdoors for the kids to do. I also liked that it ran from 8.30 – 5pm too so that parents could still go to work without having to take time off. Sarina had a great time and can’t wait to go back again. She also slept like a log! I’ll be looking out for the email next school holidays.’

'Our girls had a wonderful day, they were so full of excitement when they got home. Filthy, starving and exhausted, but very happy. They are very much looking forward to coming back again on Monday!'

'Thank you for running this program, I loved the chance for him to be outside in nature being physical and screen free all day. This is hard to achieve with many other all day school holiday programs.'
